On 18 December Ms. Indira Satarkulova, Deputy Director of the OSCE Academy, attended a round table on “Assessment of Training Needs of Representatives of State and Municipal Bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic”.
On 14 December 47 students of the MA Programme in Politics and Security and the MA Programme in Economic Governance and Development graduated from the OSCE Academy in Bishkek. The Graduation Ceremony was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, members of the Diplomatic Corps, partners and donors as well as parents and friends of the graduates.
On 11 December the OSCE Academy published its 8th issue of the Alumni Magazine SalamAlum. It gives an overview of the Alumni Network activities, presents outstanding success stories of our alumni, describes the exclusive opportunities for our graduates provided by our long-time partner institutions and many more.
On 3 December OSCE Academy MA in Politics and Security students visited the US Embassy in Bishkek and met Lieutenant Colonel Donald Kyle Perry, US Defense Attaché and Senior Defense Official to the Kyrgyz Republic.
On 30 November Ambassador Peter Burian, EU Special Representative for Central Asia, visited the OSCE Academy and delivered a speech on the new EU strategy for Central Asia to the Academy students. Ambassador Burian was accompanied by Ambassador Auer, Head of the EU Delegation to Kyrgyzstan, Ambassador Dr. Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek, Raimonds Vingris, Head of the Political, Press and Information Section.
On 29 November Mr. David Michael Gould, Lead Economist of the World Bank Europe and Central Asian Region delivered a lecture on “Critical Connections: Promoting Economic Growth and Resilience in Europe and Central Asia” to Academy students of the Economic Governance and Development Programme. Mr. Gould presented the report on this year’s World Bank’s flagship report – “Critical Connectivity”, written by him and his colleagues from the World Bank and outside contributors and explained its importance.
On 28 November the Academy was honored by the visit of Ms. Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir, Director of ODIHR, accompanied by Ambassador Greta Gunnarsdóottir, Senior Political Adviser/Head of Director's Office, Ambassador Dr. Pierre von Arx, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and Dr. Marcin Walecki, Head of ODIHR’s Democratization Department.
In the beginning of November a joint Small Pitching School was launched by the OSCE Academy, DAAD Bishkek, Falling Walls Lab Bishkek and ololohaus. This Small Pitching School aims at enhancing the presentation skills of 25 participants, 5 of whom are OSCE Academy MA students, and at preparing them to compete in the Falling Walls Lab Bishkek 2019.
On 6-8 November 2018, Dr. Nazgul Jenish, Senior Lecturer at the OSCE Academy, participated in the Conference “Global and Contemporary Trends in Social Science”, Barcelona. The objective of the conference was to bring together social scientists from all around the world in order to share and disseminate state-of-art research on critical socio-economic issues, ranging from financial management, poverty, migration to environmental protection, urbanization and technology diffusion.
On 15 November Mr. Scott Smith, Political Affairs Department Director and Mr. Maciej Dachowski, Political Officer for Regional Affairs of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) paid their second visit this year to the OSCE Academy to deliver a lecture to the new group of MA students and to discuss possibilities for internships for Afghan alumni within the UN Volunteers programme in Afghanistan.
