By Invitation of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and on behalf of the OSCE Academy, Professor Anja Mihr participated in the International Forum of 'China's 70-years Development and the Building of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind' from 5-7 November 2019 in Shanghai, China. The Forum was dedicated to Chinas endeavors in the Belt-and-Road-Initiative(BRI) since 2013.
On 8 November the OSCE Academy conducted a workshop on 'China’s Belt & Road Initiative: Cross Regional Perspective'. Workshop was divided into three sessions: the first two sessions were organized in a classical panel form with each featuring three to four presenters, whereas the last attempted to engage into an open discussion of current trends and challenges in studying China’s Belt & Road Initiative (BRI).
From 4 to 8 November a new training was held at the Academy - Seminar on analytical writing in the Kyrgyz language. This training is designed for journalists, bloggers, young researchers and activists to help develop their analytical writing and communication skills in the Kyrgyz language. Agenda of the seminar included lectures, group discussions, peer editing sessions, presentations and round table.
On 5 November, H.E. Mosud Mannan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Uzbekistan with concurrent accreditation to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, accompanied by Mr. Temirbek Erkinov, Honorary Consul of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh at Bishkek, and Ms. Shakhlo Gafurova, Social Secretary at the Embassy of Bangladesh in Uzbekistan, visited the OSCE Academy.
From 28 October to 1 November Professional Skills and Assets for Successful Job Applications Workshop, led by Prof. Dr. Rolf Kuchenbuch, DAAD longterm lecturer and Ms. Amelia Hagen, Lecturer, Narxoz University, was held for the second time at the OSCE Academy. The training was designed for young and early career professionals from Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to help them to acquire key skills to present and promote themselves on the labor market.
From 29 to 31 October OSCE Academy Director Dr. Alexander Wolters and Deputy Director Ms. Indira Satarkulova, traveled to Vienna for a bi-annual OSCE Academy Board of Trustees Meeting. The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Dr. Pierre von Arx, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, Head of the OSCE Programme Office in Bishkek and attended by representatives of the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, of the Delegations from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Finland, Norway, Russia, US, Albania, Switzerland, Austria, as well as representatives from Conflict Prevention Centre of the OSCE.
From 21 to 25 October the OSCE Academy conducted its International Policy Paper Writing Seminar for young scholars, activists and policy-makers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. This one-week training included lectures, class discussions, group work and peer-editing sessions led by Dr. Emil Dzhuraev, Senior lecturer, and Dr. Lance Tillman, Visiting Lecturer of the OSCE Academy.
On 24 October the OSCE Academy welcomed representatives of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an introductory visit. Ambassador Juha Virtanen, Senior Advisor, Unit for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Ms. Marianne Purojärvi, Desk Officer for Central Asia and Ms. Marjo Ahvenainen, Programme Officer for Development Aid Projects in Central Asia, met with Dr. Alexander Wolters, Director of the Academy, and learned about Academy’s activities, programmes, its recent developments and plans for coming years.
On 21 October Mr. Mark Pfeifle, founder and President of “Off the Record Strategies”, accompanied by Mr. Turatbek Makenbaev, Information Assistant, U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyz Republic, visited the OSCE Academy. Mr. Pfeifle shared his professional experience and delivered a lecture on “Succeeding in an Era Fake News and Media Bias” to students of the MA Programme in Politics and Security.
On 19 October 2019, Prof, Dr. Anja Mihr, DAAD Visiting Professor at the OSCE Academy gave a talk at the St. Petersburg Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Russia, on 'Glocal Governance and Human Rights'. The talk was part of the Annual October Readings that take place at the HSE dedicated to the topic of Human Rights.
